A guide on Facebook Messenger bots and why they are critical in your overall social media puzzle.
Don’t worry, I’m not going to throw in some coding jargon here. But first things first, throw your misconceptions about bots out the window. Whichever way you want to look at it, bots on Messenger make sense. There are over a billion people using Messenger every day. This means the activities and conversations on the app are nonstop.
Ever heard of Facebook Messenger bot? Essentially, it’s just software, a third-party app that plugs into your Facebook business page. What it does is automate conversations. That’s the easiest way to put it.

There’s no better way to find out if something works or not other than to give it a try. Go and explore the bot universe. You’ll find out how chatbots can actually do more than just automating conversations. Visit chatbot builder sites like ManyChat and test it out yourself. If you’re someone who provides or have already put out a lot of content on your page, connect your bot to those posts. This is a strong audience engagement hack. Every time someone comments on any of your posts, they get a message from you. Let’s say, person A left a heart emoji on a tutorial video you posted. Messenger will then send a “follow-up” message asking if they want to see more content like that. Your bot may start by sharing a lead form. It will ask what content or products they are most interested in learning about. This gives person A the option to continue the conversation which can then turn into a possible lead.
One cool thing about bots is you can nurture your audience inside the conversation. Don’t think of your bot as just another version of your website. When building your bot, make sure you’re thinking about it from the standpoint of the user. Nurture their interest after they first discover content so they return to learn more.
To wrap up, it’s important you break all your bot misconceptions.
“If you think about it the right way, you are creating ultimate experiences for people,” says Ali. Open up your digital strategy for the adoption of chatbots.
